Why UNIKAT?
Now in its second generation, the UNIKAT brand has a simple manifesto: to create windows that every family member can use naturally and effortlessly in their own home.
“The first window, what we called a double-glazed window back then in 1998, is still standing today in my parents’ house.” — Gabriel Muntean, Founder & CEO of UNIKAT
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right type of PVC joinery for my home?
PVC joinery offers a wide variety of configurations, security packages, and insulation levels, and the right choice depends on the specific characteristics of your home and your lifestyle.
Through our free technical consultancy, you will discover exactly which solution suits you best. For example, if you live in an area like Constanța, where winters are mild, the highest class of thermal insulation may not be necessary— however, if your home is located on a busy, high-traffic boulevard, superior sound insulation becomes essential.
Similarly, the RC (Resistance Class) security package is chosen based on the floor level, exposure, and the accessibility of the windows.
Our goal is to help you find the ideal balance between what you desire and what you truly need, avoiding unnecessary costs and providing joinery perfectly adapted to your home and your pace of life.
What does nZEB-certified installation mean, and why is it important?
nZEB stands for “Nearly Zero Energy Building,” referring to a structure with near-zero energy consumption. nZEB-certified installation guarantees that windows and doors are installed according to the most demanding European standards, eliminating heat loss and ensuring maximum airtightness.
It is an essential step toward achieving Passive House certification and ensuring the long-term comfort of your home.
Do you work with your own teams or with third-party installers?
The majority of our installations, as well as all high-complexity projects, are carried out by our own in-house teams, who are specialized and trained in professional installation to nZEB standards. Depending on availability and project location, we also collaborate with approved partner teams, directly trained by our company, located in the country’s main regions.
This structure allows us to provide prompt service without compromising on quality. Whether the installation is performed by our own in-house team or an approved partner, the standard of execution and the warranty remain the same — giving you the peace of mind that the work is correct, durable, and fully compliant with the product’s technical specifications.
What does "proper installation" mean in the joinery?
Proper installation means the precise alignment of the joinery, the complete sealing of the gaps between the frame and the wall, and the use of professional materials (subframes, pre-compressed tapes, sealing foils, EPDM, thermal window sills). These details ensure the performance of your windows and doors: thermal and acoustic insulation, security, and durability.
A high-quality window can be compromised by a poor installation — that is why, for us, the installation is just as important as the product itself.
Can I verify if the installation was performed correctly?
Of course. At the client’s request, the installation can be verified using professional methods such as:
- the Blower Door airtightness test,
- thermal imaging (thermography),
- or smoke testing.
These tests are standard in the evaluation of passive houses (Passive House Institute). We can guide you toward accredited specialists, as we stand fully behind the quality of the work we deliver.
How long does the installation process take?
The duration depends on the complexity of the project, the number of windows, and the type of joinery. Generally, installation for a single-family home takes between 1 and 3 days, ensuring that all technical stages are strictly followed.
We always provide you with a clear timeline before the work begins.
How do I maintain my windows and doors to keep them in excellent condition?
Modern joinery does not require complicated maintenance:
- Periodically clean the profiles and hardware using neutral solutions, free of solvents;
- Lubricating the hinges once a year prevents wear and tear;
- Switching between summer and winter modes via mechanical adjustment improves window performance.
What warranty does your company offer?
We offer a comprehensive warranty for both the product and the installation, depending on the type of joinery and the specific requirements of the project.
All components are made from premium, CE-certified materials, and installation is performed according to nZEB standards.
More importantly, we offer the moral guarantee of a job done as if it were for our own home.
Can you provide special solutions for passive houses or buildings with high energy standards?
Yes. We have extensive experience in installing joinery for passive houses and nZEB buildings, utilizing technologies that comply with Passive House Institute requirements: thermally insulated subframes, 3-layer sealing, premium hardware, and high-performance triple glazing.
We can support you from the design phase all the way to the completion of performance testing.
Can I benefit from consultancy before making a purchase?
Absolutely. We offer free technical consultancy to ensure that your choice of joinery is correct and perfectly tailored to your needs. T
ogether, we analyze the home’s exposure, security risks, required insulation levels, and the available budget.
Our goal is to help you make an informed decision — without compromises, for the comfort of your home and family.
